While I am less than two months into my freshman year, I feel like I know most of the city of Boston like the back of my hand. I also have been lucky enough to go to this wonderful city multiple times with friends and family. There are numerous places to go to in Boston, and here are some of my favorite spots.

  1. The Museum of Fine Arts

This museum holds thousands upon thousands of art pieces. It is difficult to see all of them in one day alone. As a person who enjoys art and its history, it is amazing how much there really is to look at. This museum features art from different cultures and time periods from around the world. Plus, the museum hosts different exhibitions every year. I recently went to their Women in Renaissance and Sargent exhibits and absolutely loved them. I would encourage you to go there, especially since it is a few blocks away and free with your Emmanuel ID.

2. TD Garden

I am a huge Boston Bruins fan, so TD Garden is obviously a favorite spot of mine. When I was little, I used to go to the game closest to my birthday with my dad and watch how the game unfolded. At the time, the only players I knew by heart were Tuukka Rask and Milan Lucic, my dad’s personal favorite. But I still have fond memories of watching the Garden erupt into cheers each time there was a goal. As I matured, I finally learned all the player’s names and understood the game properly. I still go to games with my dad every now and then, but now I am planning to go to some with my friends at Emmanuel. If you are into hockey, it is a must to go to TD Garden.

3. The North End

The North End, also known as Little Italy, features multiple things: beautiful churches, good food, and amazing aspects of history. This is a place that holds some of the oldest houses in the area. The oldest is Paul Revere’s former home, which was built in 1680. There are tons of bakeries. I recommend Bova’s Bakery and Mike’s Pastry. It is a cute, little area that only covers one mile of land, but there is so much to do.

4. The Boston Public Library

This has to be the most beautiful library in America. There are two parts of the library: the historical and the modern.  The modern building is like a typical library, it is divided up into genres and has books galore. It is crazy that there is enough space for all the books and plenty of tables for people to sit. It has a nice environment and is very open. The historical building is a little different and is where many people tend to do their studies. This part is covered by paintings made by John Singer Sargent, Edwin Austin Abbey and more. It is breathtaking and is an artistic masterpiece. So if you ever want to find a book or find a cute spot to take photos, the Boston Public Library is the place to go.

5. Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market

If you do not mind cobblestone sidewalks, this area is a great place to grab a bite to eat and go shopping. Inside the main building of Quincy Market, there is a food court where you can get any food you can enjoy. There are also cute little shacks on the side that sell jewelry, stuffed animals and crystals. Outside of Quincy Market, there are cute clothing stores as well as places like Newbury Comics. There are countless street performers too, which are always fun to see.
