RECAP: Psychology Club’s Bob Ross Paint Night

Words by: Christina Loberti

Emmanuel College’s psychology club hosted a Bob Ross tutorial paint night on Monday, November 22 located in the Eisner Administration Building on the Emmanuel College campus.

Psychology club is currently holding de-stressing events, engaging those to enjoy a therapeutic and fun time.

Approximately twenty students gathered to attend the event. A twenty-five minute tutorial video of Bob Ross painting his piece, Splendor of Autumn, was played on a TV visible for all attendees to see and follow along.

Acrylic paint, paper, and paint brushes were supplied for students to use. Tea and chips were also provided as a snack for all attendees.

Cheerful students laughed and painted along-side friends and colleagues while struggling to match the effortless work of Bob Ross.

A small slideshow presentation was also made by members of the psychology club. The importance of art and art therapy was discussed at the beginning of the event.

Art therapy was described in the slideshow as a way to “help reduce feelings of isolation,” and “explore emotions.”

Morgan Dodge, Vice President of the psychology club came up with the idea to host this event.

“I decided to do a Bob Ross painting tutorial because I thought it would relieve stress to just follow along, have tea and chips, and be like a fun, social event.” Dodge said.

Emmanuel College sophomore Juliana Cimino fulfilled Dodge’s idea by saying, “It was definitely de-stressing and fun at the same time.”

Dodge’s care for the event and attendees was stated. “As long as everyone had fun, that’s all that matters.”

Dodge listed how people can find out about the next events the psychology club will be hosting.

“Psych club will be holding another de-stressor night for finals and we coordinate these events by sending out emails and we have fliers that we submit for Engage.”

Make sure to check out the rest of the psychology club events coming soon!
